PEAK LOAD PRICING

A pricing principle that charges more for purchases that contribute to the peak demand and, thereby, cause the expansion of productive capacity when the peak demand exceeds the peak capacity (less minimum excess capacity). In the electric power industry, this means charging more hr electricity bought on or near the seasonal peak of the utility or on or near the daily peak of the utility. The latter requires special meters; the former does not.
